I’m not sure what kind of mood I’m in – one that would possess me to listen to MGMT for like 3 straight hours.  I went on a haunted hayride earlier that wasn’t even scary and now I’ve had “Electric Feel” on repeat for like 2 fucking hours. Weird. Fucking hippies do this shit to me every time. So, uh.. who’s gonna get me some acid ’cause that’s obvs the next step. kidding – drugs are bad, mmmkkkaaaay???

In all seriousness [kind of], MGMT are nothing short of amazing [read: soul-shocking]. Oracular Spectacular is my favorite record this year; one of my favorites of all time ever forever times infinity plus one. Fucking “Electric Feel.” That is some sexy shit. I should probably make my delirious ass go to bed soon. This is getting out of control.

I Trust You To Kill Me..

..is the name of the latest release by Rocco DeLuca & The Burden. They hail from Long Beach SoCal, but their sound seems like it was dug out of the bayou, laced with pop-sensibilities, and indie-fied [totally not a word, but writing a personal dictionary comes along with the territory of blogging]. With DeLuca’s dobro and wailing vocals, this four-piece band/pièce-de-resistance is enjoyed better in a live context. Their studio material falls flat without the dynamic of a live performance. Totally weird fact – they were signed by Kiefer Sutherland’s label Ironworks. Yes, that’s the guy from 24. No, I don’t know why he has authority in the music business. Since their touring schedule is relatively non-existent, unless you live in California, I found a clip of Rocco DeLuca doing his solo thing. ‘Cause honestly – he’s much yummier when you can get him alone.

Sorry I took such a long hiatus, about which I cannot divulge any secrets! But, I can tell you that this song is amazing and a heart-saver. It’s Tilly and the Wall’s “Lost Girls,” which was inspired by Henry Darger’s paintings and related works of fiction. Beautiful artwork, visual, literary and musical. This is sort of my last resort song. Sometimes the best way to heal yourself is to perpetuate your sadness.  Eventually the well will dry up and the hurt will fade away. Here’s looking at you, kid.

An Horse is in the studio recording a follow-up to their 2008 EP “Not Really Scared.”  The new material will be released on Mom and Pop Records, a New York-based indie label.  The Horse has graciously allowed us to infiltrate their lives while creating musical goodie-ness. Thank you, oh kind ones.

Moenie & Kitchi.

The long-awaited release of a personal favorite of mine, Gregory and the Hawk, made its debut into the world weighing in at just a few ounces! Moenie & Kitchi was released October 7th, and let me just tell you: it is worth every penny to buy this album in a time when it’s usually not worth it. Her vocals and hook-laden lyrics always fit so sweetly over the whimsical instrumentation. This album is much heavier on the orchestral elements, which I find adds perfectly to that feeling of being a fairy floating through a cloud of dandelions and cupcakes, much like the feeling Miss Meredith creates for me. The song “Sweet Winter Hello” makes me want to make hot chocolate, weep, climb a hill, cuddle, weep some more, and eat a lot of mashed potatoes while snuggled under the covers dreaming about getting away with naming my future twins Moenie and Kitchi. Oh wait, you guys don’t do that? That’s totally embarrassing. Alas, I’m unapologetic.

Tegan Quin gives an interview on the song she wrote for Augusten Burrough’s new memoir “A Wolf at the Table,” new material with AFI’s Hunter Burgan, how damn hawt RiRi [Rihanna] is, and a multitude of topics [I had to find a way to gratuitously work that linkage in].  Umm, but here’s my call to action.  Get your shit together my fellow Americans. Don’t fuck this up for me. In my humble opinion, never seeing T&S again is probably the equivalent of losing 100 infants everyday.  End of call to action.

When glue was made from horses..

I was late for class again this morning. I HATE BEING LATE. Let me repeat that – I HATE BEING LATE. zomg it sucks. I thought my day was destined to just be complete shit, especially after I see creep-ass truck driver to my right picking his nose while oogling my goodies. DISGUSTING. I was listening to a little classic rock, ’cause y’all know I like to keep it classy, and I heard something I never thought I would hear. I actually heard a decent Fleetwood Mac song!! Yeah, right?! Could this be the only intact song by F.M. that wasn’t tainted by mind-numbingly mainstream country music? I kid, I kid. I would take a bullet for Natalie Maines of the Dixie Chicks. But seriously, I will take a bullet if I hear “Landslide” again. Maybe I had a bad prom experience involving a boy who decided to wear white jeans and k-swiss. And no, this wasn’t 1992. It was 2005. Don’t judge me.

Where was I going with this? Oh, right! An Horse is touring the U.S. fucking as we speak!! I am soo psyched to see them again. The last time I was vis-à-vis with Kate Cooper, the deliciously androgynous frontwoman, my soul was shredded to pieces. Only her horsey glue can glue it back together. That’s where I was going with this – glue used to be made from horses, so it’s ironic that only her glue can put it back together. Oh geez, I’m too witty for my own good. Anywho, the Brisbane-based band has been plugging along for a few years now. The sweet musings were originally constructed in the record store where both members worked and have since been filling the earphones of pubescent girls across the world! I’ll be going to the show on October 20th and November 2nd. Any takers? I promise I’ll drive and pay for the gas, food, potential lodging, merch, fun-times. PLEASE SOMEONE GO WITH ME. hahahaha. Their tour schedule can be found at their myspace, which I already linked, but will link it again because I’m feeling especially pleasant today.

Love Type Thing.

I was thinking back through all the loves I’ve had in my life, musically of course. I can remember head-banging hardcore to Nirvana at the tender age of 4, totally not understanding yet belting the lyrics to “Like a Virgin” a few years later, and wondering if the world really was either “Black or White.” But really those artists only held me over until I met the love of my life: Tegan and Sara. I know, I know. You’re probably thinking I just want to have their babies, and you’d be totally correct! All notions of propagation aside, there’s something deeply rooted inside their music that brings me to my deepest roots. A Tegan and Sara song has the uncanny ability to strip you to your core, because let’s face it – they know what the fuck you’re going through. Weird. I caught them in Baltimore this past Thursday, and they pretty much melted my face off. I was happy to volunteer for this cruel experiment from the second row back. I posted a few pictures below that include, pre-show “debauchery” with my little sisters, city and colour, and the majesties themselves, Tegan Rain Quin and Sara Kiersten Quin.

Being with my sisters at this show was one of my favorite shared memories. :]
